Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.
Why are you so down? What’s the matter?
Don’t you know that God’s got you?
Don’t you know that His word
and always will be
I know you’ve messed up big time
You’ve been chasing the lie that this world is here to satisfy
That cheap thrills and vain pursuits are OK in moderation
As long as you make sure to throw in some prayer and maybe a little meditation
But that’s the thing
And you fall hard for it no matter how hard you try
But where’d you get the idea that this is on you?
Your Dad didn’t hand you the controller
Tell you to press a few buttons, say, "Maybe you’ll get it when you’re older"
Nah - in fact, He’s in charge
Every wrong key, every poor decision
It’s all in his plan and vision
To make you a little more like him
And make it all work together for good
Causing us to glorify Him just like we should
So how ‘bout you look up?
How ‘bout you start hoping in the One who knows what He’s doing
And make Him the only thing you’re pursuing
Cheer up, Soul
There’s no need to be blue
You better believe that God’s got you
